저자 답변서(Response to Reviewers) 작성법

11.1 답변서의 구조

답변서는 두 부분으로 구성된다. 1부 — 편집자에게 보내는 서한(Letter to the Editor) 전체 수정의 요지를 요약한다. 편집자가 가장 먼저 읽는 부분이며, 대개 반 쪽을 넘지 않는다. 2부 — 항목별 응답(Point-by-point response) 심사자별로, 코멘트별로 번호를 붙여 응답한다. 분량 제한은 없으며 충실할수록 좋다.

11.2 다섯 가지 황금 원칙

① 모든 코멘트에 답한다. 사소해 보이는 것도 빠뜨리지 않는다. 누락은 성의 부족으로 읽힌다. ② 감사로 시작한다. 형식적으로 보여도 효과가 있다. 심사자는 무보수로 시간을 쓴 사람이다. ③ 수정 위치를 명시한다. “수정하였습니다”만으로는 부족하다. 페이지·줄 번호와 수정된 원문을 함께 제시한다. ④ 수정 원문을 인용한다. 심사자가 원고 전체를 다시 읽지 않아도 확인할 수 있게 한다. 이것이 재심사 통과율을 가장 크게 높인다. ⑤ 시각적으로 구분한다. 심사자 코멘트와 저자 응답을 서체·들여쓰기·색으로 구분한다.

11.3 코멘트별 3단 응답 구조

각 응답은 다음 세 부분으로 쓴다. [감사·인정] 지적에 감사하며, 그 지적이 타당함을 인정한다. [조치] 무엇을 어떻게 수정했는지 구체적으로 서술한다. [위치·원문] 수정된 위치와 실제 문장을 제시한다. 예시 Reviewer 1, Comment 3: The sample size is small, and the generalizability of the findings is limited. Response: We thank the reviewer for this important observation. We agree that the sample size limits generalizability, and we have addressed this in two ways. First, we have added an explicit statement of this limitation in the Discussion (p. 18, lines 412–419). Second, we have revised the wording of our claims throughout the Results and Discussion to avoid implying generalization beyond the study context. Revised text (p. 18): “Because the study drew on a purposive sample of 32 students at a single university, the findings should be understood as context-specific rather than generalizable. Future research with larger and more diverse samples is needed to examine whether these patterns hold in other institutional settings.” 이 구조가 강력한 이유는, 심사자가 자신의 지적이 실제로 반영되었음을 즉시 확인할 수 있기 때문이다.

11.4 편집자 서한 예시

Dear Professor [편집자명], Thank you for the opportunity to revise our manuscript [원고번호], “[제목].” We are grateful to you and the two reviewers for the careful and constructive comments, which have substantially improved the paper. We have revised the manuscript in response to all comments. The main changes are as follows: 1. We have clarified the theoretical framework in the Introduction and now state explicitly how it informs the analysis (Reviewer 1, Comments 1–2). 2. We have expanded the Methods section to provide the procedural detail needed for replication, including sampling and the analytic steps (Reviewer 2, Comments 1, 4). 3. We have moderated our claims throughout and added an explicit limitations paragraph (Reviewer 1, Comment 3; Reviewer 2, Comment 5). 4. We have added six recent studies to situate the work in current debates (Reviewer 2, Comment 2). A point-by-point response to each comment follows. 11.5 표기 방식

답변서의 가독성은 재심사 결과에 직접 영향을 준다. 다음 표기를 권한다. 요소 표기 방법 심사자 코멘트 굵게 또는 회색 배경, 원문 그대로 인용 저자 응답 일반 서체, “Response:”로 시작 수정 원문 들여쓰기 + 이탤릭, 또는 인용부호 수정 위치 (p. 12, lines 245–252) 형식으로 통일 원고 하이라이트 수정 부분을 색으로 표시한 원고를 별도 제출 번호 체계는 심사자별로 R1-1, R1-2 / R2-1 처럼 통일한다. 편집자와 심사자가 특정 항목을 지목하기 쉬워진다.

11.6 자주 쓰는 영문 문형

수용할 때

• We thank the reviewer for this valuable suggestion, which we have adopted.

• We agree with this point and have revised the manuscript accordingly.

• This is an important observation. We have now clarified this in Section 3.2. 부분 수용할 때

• We appreciate this suggestion and have incorporated it to the extent that our data permit.

• We have addressed the substance of this comment, although we approached it somewhat differently for the reason explained below.

• While a full analysis of X was beyond the scope of the present data, we have added a discussion of its implications (p. 20). 해명할 때(오해)

• We apologize for the lack of clarity in the original manuscript, which appears to have caused a misunderstanding.

• We have revised this passage to make our procedure explicit and to prevent this ambiguity.

• To clarify, the analysis was conducted on X rather than Y; we have made this explicit on p. 11. 정중히 반대할 때

• We understand the reviewer’s concern and have considered it carefully. However, we respectfully suggest that … for the following reason.

• We have chosen to retain the original approach because [근거], but we have added a note acknowledging the alternative view (p. 15). 자기 점검
